Chris designed and built this dartboard case for a customer. He chose contrasting species of wood (Purple Heart, Maple and Oak) throughout the project, including the laminated handles. The design is very  unique with the doors resembling the flights of a dart. Chris also installed dart holders to the inside of the doors. Although difficult to see, he also incorporated a chalk holder in the same feature. As one of the top students in the Construction Technology class, Chris has already completed the requirements of this course (3 weeks early) and is working on his third extra major project.

Rumpa Pum Pum

Jeff is no little drummer boy. Not only can he concuss with his percuss, he is also an accomplished woodworker. Jeff constructed snare drums out of solid wood to give a very dense deep sound. He could tell you way more than I can remember. Wood species that were used in this project include, maple purpleheart, walnut, and birds-eye maple.

Some of the wood was purchased from Aqua Timber. This company recovers old growth timbers from Georgian Bay with scuba divers and specialized recovery techniques.

The “old growth” lumber exists in the lakes today as a result of the early pioneer’s method of transporting the logs to the area sawmill. During transportation via lakes and rivers a significant portion of the timber that was harvested became waterlogged and sank to the bottom.

Jeff bult the rough shapes in Room 170 (Construction). Using the milling machine in Room 162 (Manufacturing) he finished the outside and inside contours. He routered and sanded the shells to fit the hardware and then he took the projects over to room 168 (Autobody) to be sprayed with automotive clear coat.

Vanity Fair

Kristen built this vanity cabinet for one of our teachers. She constructed the entire project from red oak to match the existing bathroom cabinets. This project sits on top of a counter top, has raised panel door cabinets at either end and 3 lights in the valence. The adjustable shelves allows for a variety of bathroom products.
